
Horace Leads BU on Day One of PL Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Boston University men’s track & field team competed on the first day of the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Navy’s Ingram Field.
BU is currently in fourth place out of nine teams through six events with 27 points. The host Mids are in the lead with 82 points, followed by Bucknell (41) and Lehigh (32).
Sophomore Reuben Horace led the Terriers, as he won the hammer throw with a mark of 58.83 meters; he was also the weight throw champion during the indoor season. Junior Michael Maloof placed sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.67 meters. Senior Manuel Pastrana took third in the javelin with a throw of 62.90 meters.
Freshmen Justin Flynn and Cameron Williams both qualified for the finals of the 100m dash and 200m dash. Flynn was third in the 100m prelims with a time of 10.98 seconds while Williams was seventh (10.92). In the prelims of the 200m dash, Williams (21.95) was third behind sophomore David Lagerberg, who finished second with a time of 21.77 seconds. Flynn finished sixth with a mark of 21.99 seconds.
Sophomore Paul Gennaro finished sixth in his first-ever collegiate attempt at the 10,000m run with a time of 32:25.11. Junior Nikolaos Farmakidis also had a sixth-place finish, as he had a mark of 4.80 meters in the pole vault. Senior Sam Arsenault secured seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.83 meters.
The Terriers will conclude the meet on Saturday. Among the athletes expected to compete is senior Rich Peters, who will be making his 2014 outdoor debut in the 1,500m run.
