INDIANAPOLIS - Three members of the Boston University men's track and field team qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced on Thursday.
Sophomores Reuben Horace and Alec Olson will join senior Rich Peters at the competition, held May 29-31 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. This is the third straight year that Peters has qualified for the meet while Horace has advanced to the prelims for the second straight season. Olson will be making his NCAA preliminary debut.
Horace will compete in the hammer throw for the second straight year after qualifying with a personal-best mark of 60.61 meters at the IC4A Championships. Peters' time of 3:44.68 in the 1,500m run at the Patriot League Championships is his only eligible time of the season, though he did run 3:38.83 at the USATF High Performance Distance Classic on May 15. That time is just one one-hundredth of a second behind the top-seeded time in the region (3:38.82). Olson's will take aim at the 3,000m steeplechase after a personal-best time of 8:54.70 at the IC4A Championships.
Start lists for next week's meet will be available on Tuesday, May 27.
