EUGENE, Ore. - Rich Peters of the Boston University men's track & field team concluded his 2014 outdoor season at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday night at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
Peters placed sixth in his semifinal heat of the 1,500m run with a time of 3:46.74, edged by just four-tenths of a second for fifth place and an automatic spot in Saturday's final. He paced the field for much of the race, his third straight appearance at the outdoor championships.
The Bristol, England, native had a fantastic 2014, having set three school records during the indoor season and surpassing his school standard in the 1,500m run during the outdoor season. He became just the second two-time recipient of the Mickey Cochrane Award as the university's top male athlete after breaking the collegiate record in the 1,000m run and setting school standards in both the mile and the 3,000m run.
In addition, Peters was a USTFCCCA First-Team All-America selection during the indoor season following a fourth-place finish in the mile at the NCAA Championships. It was his second top-five finish in that event at the indoor championships in the last three years. Peters was also a two-time Patriot League champion in 2014, winning the mile and the 1,500m run in impressive fashion, and will return for his final year of eligibility in 2015.
