BOSTON - Gemma Acheampong of the Boston University women's track & field team will represent Ghana at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Acheampong is set to compete in the 100m dash at the 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games, a multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. It will be held July 23-August 3.
The junior sprinter had her best collegiate season in 2014 as she helped lead the Terriers to the Patriot League championship in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Acheampong set a new school record in the 100m dash at the outdoor championships with a time of 11.61 seconds to win the event. She concluded her season at the NCAA East prelims in May.
Acheampong is one of two Terrier track athletes that will compete at the Commonwealth Games, as Rich Peters was selected to Team England and will feature in the 1,500m run.
