NEW ORLEANS - Graduate students Allison Barwise and Nikko Brady of the Boston University women's track & field team, along with sophomore David Lagerberg of the men's track & field team, earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the association announced Tuesday.
Barwise, the Patriot League Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, maintained a 3.85 grade-point average while pursuing a master's degree in speech-language pathology. She was a USTFCCCA First-Team All-America selection after finishing sixth in the high jump at the NCAA Championships and was also selected as the USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Field Athlete of the Year. The Orange, Connecticut, native set three different school records during the outdoor season.
Brady boasted a 3.82 GPA as she pursued a master's degree in city, community and regional planning. She advanced to the NCAA East prelims in both the long jump and the 100m hurdles. Brady was named Patriot League Track Athlete of the Meet after she cruised to a victory in the 100m hurdles and the long jump. The New Castle, Delaware, native also won the Eastern section of the long jump at the Penn Relays with a leap of 6.21 meters, second-best in program history.
Lagerberg earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League squad thanks to a 3.64 GPA as an economics major. During the outdoor season, Lagerberg won the 400m dash at the Patriot League Championships with a personal-best time of 47.61 seconds and was also second in the 200m dash. He was also part of the 4x100m relay team that set a new school record at the Florida Relays.
In addition, both the men's and women's squads were selected as All-Academic Track & Field Teams. To earn that distinction, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The women's team posted a 3.27 GPA while the men's team combined for a 3.22 GPA.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
