September 3, 2014 | Men's Soccer
BOSTON - Currently in his 30th season with the Boston University men's soccer team, head coach Neil Roberts has announced the addition of two men to his staff. Former BU All-American and current New England Revolution midfielder Andy Dorman ('03) will serve as Head of Match Analysis, while former Manchester United member Tom Mayor will work primarily with the goalkeepers as the volunteer assistant coach.
"We're very fortunate to bring in both Tom and Andy," said Roberts. "Tom is a young coach, but he has a lot of experience with goalkeepers. Our keepers will greatly benefit from his expertise. Since he's moved back to Boston after playing in England and Scotland, Andy has been wanting to get into coaching. This opportunity will be a start for him. He has his UEFA B badge, and I'm looking forward to integrating both men into our team."
By returning to his alma mater, Dorman is now the second on Roberts' staff to have experience playing in Major League Soccer (MLS) alongside assistant coach Francis Okaroh ('87), who was a three-time All-American before playing for the Revolution and Chicago Fire. Still currently a member of the Revolution's roster, Dorman will assist Roberts by breaking down video of BU and opponents' games.
A native of Chester, England, the two-time team captain Dorman graduated from BU as a three-time America East All-Conference honoree. He received a pair of All-New England Team awards before departing as the school record holder for assists (37). Currently ranked t-7th all-time in points (81), he went on to play for the Revolution from 2004-07 and then went overseas to St. Mirren (2007-10) in the Scottish Premier League and Crystal Palace (2010-12) in England's Championship League. The midfielder also earned two caps playing for the Welsh National Team and later rejoined the Revolution in 2013.
Mayor joins the Terriers as an FA Level 2 Licence coach and FA Level 2 Goalkeeper coach. He brings a variety of playing experience from age nine, including Leicester City FC. In 2010, the Northampton, England native received a sixth-month contract with Manchester United and played with the reserve team against squads like Arsenal and Aston Villa while also training with the first team goalkeepers.
The goalkeeper later received trials at Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton before suffering a career-ending arm injury. Afterwards, he worked as an assistant goalkeeper coach with the under 18, 19 and Reserve Watford FC teams from 2011-13 while also scouting for new goalkeeper talent in the region. This past year, he's been working as the Director of Goalkeepers for Global Premier Socccer.
