Postgame Comments - Coach Quinn
HARTFORD, Conn. - Despite senior Danny O'Regan's 50th career goal, the No. 7/8 Boston University men's ice hockey team dropped a 5-2 road contest to Connecticut on Tuesday evening at the XL Center.
UConn went 4-for-6 on the power play - with three goals coming from stick of Tage Thompson - to earn a split in the home-and-home series, as BU recorded a 4-2 home victory over the Huskies on Saturday.
The Huskies scored on the first power play of the game but the Terriers made it a 1-1 affair heading into the first intermission thanks to a power-play goal of their own by O'Regan with 33 seconds left in the opening period.
Freshman Charlie McAvoy spotted O'Regan at the left post and the senior converted to become the 57th player in program history to reach the 50-goal mark. Freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson also assisted on the tally.
The home squad regained the lead in the second, converting on another power play before making it 3-1 on an even-strength tally with 4:43 left in the middle stanza.
Thompson tacked two more power-play goals late in the third to complete his hat trick and push the lead to 5-1.
Sophomore Chase Phelps scored for BU in the final minute of regulation off assists from junior Robbie Baillargeon and freshman Ryan Cloonan to create the 5-2 final.
BU held a 38-24 advantage in shots and was 1-for-5 on the power play. Sophomore Connor LaCouvee made 19 saves for the Terriers while Rob Nichols turned in a 36-save effort for the Huskies.
The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Oct. 30) when they visit Merrimack for a 7 p.m. contest.
