Faybyshev Wins Singles Flight at Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Highlighted by freshman Sabrina Faybyshev and senior Lauren Davis advancing to their respective singles flight championship match, the Boston University women's tennis team continued their fall schedule at the three-day Brown Invitational over the weekend. BU was joined by host Brown, Rutgers, St. John's, Stony Brook and UMass.
Faybyshev went a perfect 3-0 with straight-set wins over Rutgers, St. John's and Harvard. She first dispatched Chloe Lee (6-0, 6-2) and then Olaya Inclan Solis (6-3, 6-4) to reach the Crimson Singles Flight final against Amanda Lin. She continued her impressive play and prevailed, 6-1, 6-4.
Davis opened the Scarlet Flight with a 6-2, 7-6 win over St. John's and then rallied from a set down to defeat Brown's five-star recruit, Katie Ta (5-7, 6-2, 6-3), who was the No. 22 ranked freshman according to TennisRecruiting.com. She battled Stony Brook's Tzvetkov but came up just short in a 7-5, 6-4 loss.
A total of five Terriers finished with at least two singles victories in their respective flight. Freshman Remi Ramos, junior Barbara Rodriguez and junior Iris Lin all joined Davis and Faybyshev in hitting the mark.
In doubles action, Faybyshev and senior Johanna Hyoty went 3-1 to lead the Terriers.
BU will have the following week off and next compete at the Yale Invitational on Oct. 9-11.
