
Terriers Welcome River Hawks to Nickerson Field Wednesday Night

BOSTON - Concluding a three-game homestand, the Boston University men's soccer team will host UMass Lowell on Wednesday with action set to begin at 7 p.m.
The game will mark the first meeting between the two schools since the River Hawks (5-3-0) moved to the NCAA Division I ranks in 2013 and the America East to replace the Terriers (4-2-1), who joined the Patriot League that same summer. They last met in 1981 at Nickerson Field.
TERRIER TIDBITS
• BU has opened a season without being shut out through seven games for the first time since 1994 ... That squad scored in the first 10 games of the year.
• BU is 2-1-0 against in-state schools this year with Patriot League rival Holy Cross remaining on the schedule ... At Nickerson Field, the Terriers dropped a late 3-2 decision to Boston College at Nickerson Field on Aug. 31 and later shut out Harvard, 3-0, last Thursday ... On the road, they won at UMass, 2-1.
• On Sunday, the Terriers recorded their first tie of the season with a 1-1 result against Bucknell ... In their first overtime game, they won at Fordham, 2-1, after going 2-1-4 last season.
• Senior defender Jeroen Blugh became the fifth Terrier to be recognized by the Patriot League on Monday this season ... He headed in his fourth career goal against Bucknell off junior Mark Wadid's corner kick.
• Wadid is one of three Terriers with two assists this year, joining freshman T.J. Butzke and sophomore Anthony Viteri ... 11 Terriers have earned an assist this year through seven contests after 12 total recorded a helper last season.
• Last Thursday against Harvard, Viteri became the first Terrier since 2005 to have at least two goals and an assist in a game ... He leads the Patriot League in points per game at 1.71.
• Junior Matt Gilbert has played every second at net and owns a 1.16 goals against average and .788 save percentage ... The lone goal allowed on Sunday came off a penalty kick ... He finished with five saves in the tie.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
• The River Hawks have played six of their eight games at home with the other two taking place at the Brooklyn Cup ... UML lost 3-0 to St. Francis (N.Y.) and edged LIU Brooklyn, 1-0.
• UML has won four of its last five games with shutout victories against LIU Brooklyn, Buffalo (2-0) and Hartwick (1-0) with the lone loss coming against Canisius (2-1) ... The River Hawks won a week ago against Bryant, 3-2, in overtime.
• 2014 America East All-Conference First Team honoree Wuilito Fernandes leads UML in points with seven off two goals and three assists ... Seven other individuals have scored one goal this year.
• BU will see a familiar face in junior Carlos Ruiz, who earned 2012 America East All-Rookie Team honors with the Terriers behind a goal and assist ... He scored his lone goal this season against Bryant for UML after earning 2014 All-AE First Team honors with three goals and three assists.
• Austin Kroll has played every second at goal and owns a 1.12 goals against average with a .710 save percentage and four shutouts.
SERIES HISTORY
• BU leads the all-time series, 3-1-0, with the four meetings taking place from 1978-81 ... The Terriers won the first three contests, 8-0, 1-0 and 2-1, respectively ... UML edged BU, 1-0, at Nickerson Field in 1981.
• UML is the result of a merger between Lowell State and Lowell Tech in 1975 ... The Terriers went 4-0-1 against Lowell Tech from 1955-59.
UP NEXT
• BU will resume Patriot League action at American on Saturday (Oct. 3) at 1 p.m. ... The Eagles (6-3-0), who will visit Princeton Tuesday night, were ranked earlier in the season but have lost three of their last four games by one goal apiece.
• The Terriers are 0-1-1 in the series following last year's 0-0 draw at Nickerson Field ... The Eagles posted a 3-1 victory in 2013 in Washington, D.C. in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
