BOSTON - The No. 14 Boston University field hockey team (8-4, 2-1 PL) returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 15) when it hosts Lehigh (5-8, 2-2 PL) for a Patriot League contest. Game time at New Balance Field is set for 1 p.m.
On Sunday (Oct. 16), the Terriers will make the short drive to Newton to take on archrival and 13th-ranked Boston College (7-6). That game also has a 1 p.m. start.
Saturday's contest will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network while Sunday's tilt will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
The Terriers, who earned a 2-1 win at Bucknell last Saturday, will look to make it back-to-back victories while facing a Lehigh squad that has been strong as of late. The Mountain Hawks just wrapped up a perfect 4-0 homestand after enduring an eight-game losing streak.
Lehigh posted shutouts against Holy Cross (6-0) and Towson (5-0) last weekend after taking down Holy Cross, 1-0, and Siena, 4-3 in overtime, the previous week. The Mountain Hawks are very much in the race for a Patriot League tournament berth, currently tied for fourth with Holy Cross.
BU has won all three meetings with Lehigh as the teams had never met before the Terriers joined the Patriot League. The Terriers have posted shutouts the last two tilts, including a 3-0 triumph in Bethlehem last season. The Mountain Hawks have scored just one goal over the course of the three meetings.
Lehigh is paced offensively by sophomore Teresa Carotenuto (6g, 2a) and senior Marissa Glatt (5g, 3a), who have tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively, thus far this season. Sophomore Lauren Dice and senior Gabby Tofig each have three goals.
In the Lehigh cage, senior Julia Ward and freshman Paige Innarella have split time. Innarella has earned four of the team's five wins and has the edge in goals-against average (2.15 - 2.72) while Ward has a higher save percentage (.727 - .674).
Boston College has won three in a row and started off a three-game homestand on Friday with a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire. The Eagles' best wins this season have come against North Carolina, Louisville and Stanford.
The Terriers and Eagles have tangled 38 times and BC holds a narrow 18-17-3 advantage. The past five meetings have been decided by a single goal and the Eagles have won the past three, including 2-1 overtime decisions in both 2015 and 2014.
A potent trio sits atop the Eagles' scoring leaders. Senior Brittany Sheenan leads the way with an 8-2—18 line while classmate Eryn McCoy (6g, 4a) and sophomore Lucy Lytle (8g) each have 16 points. Junior Brooke Matherson has contributed three goals.
Redshirt junior Audra Hampsch has started all 13 games in goal for BC and sports a 1.83 goals-against average to go along with a .739 save percentage.
Five Terriers have scored four or more goals this season with senior Amanda Cassera leading the way with six tallies in addition to two assists for 14 points. Fellow seniors Taylor Blood (4g, 5a) and Hester van der Laan (5g, 2a) have registered 13 and 12 points, respectively. Junior Allie Renzi (5g, 1a) and sophomore Ally Hammel (4g, 3a) have 11 points apiece.
Senior Cammy Jensen continues to be strong in goal for BU and enters the weekend with a .717 save percentage and a 1.40 goals-against average.
