BOSTON – Despite controlling possession for the majority of the second half and doubling up Syracuse in corners, the No. 13 Boston University field hockey team came up just short in a 2-1 contest against the third-ranked Orange on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Syracuse scored goals less than four minutes apart in the opening half to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
- The Terriers controlled the play throughout the second half, creating several chances and earning five corners.
- BU got on the board with 3:54 remaining when senior Amanda Cassera followed up her own rebound from the left side and put a shot over Syracuse goalkeeper Regan Spencer.
- The Orange's first goal came at 22:28 when a deflection in the circle caused the ball to bounce near the cage. Positioned above the right post, Jennifer Bleakney got her stick on it and sent it in.
- At 26:08, Lies Lagerweij drilled a reverse-stick shot from the left side to the far boards to double the Orange's lead.
- Senior Cammy Jensen made nine saves, including five in the second half, to keep the Terriers in the contest.
GAME NOTES
- The Terriers held a 6-3 advantage in corners and nine of their 10 shots came after the break.
- Spencer made four saves for the Orange, who had 18 shots on the day.
- Cassera's goal was her ninth of the season and it gave her 85 career points, tying her with Pam Spuehler '08 for sixth on BU's all-time list.
