BU Rallies Past Navy, 2-1, Into Patriot League Final

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Facing a one-goal deficit with 11 minutes remaining, the No. 2 seed Boston University women's soccer team used late scores from sophomores McKenna Doyle and Julianna Chen to eliminate No. 5 Navy, 2-1, in the Patriot League semifinals on Friday night at Bucknell's Emmitt Field. With the come-from-behind victory, the Terriers will next battle the host Bison on Sunday at 1 p.m. after Bucknell won the earlier game against No. 6 Lafayette, 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite owning a 6-2 advantage in shots and 3-0 lead in corners, the Terriers went into the locker room at the half scoreless.
  • The Mids jumped out ahead at 64:14 when Ash Fairow beat a BU defender for a long through ball and scored past the defenseless keeper Hannah Ciolek.
  • After receiving a pass from junior Erin Neville, sophomore McKenna Doyle made a move to her left around a Navy defender and shot toward the left post for the equalizer at 79:23.
  • Less than two minutes later, sophomore Julianna Chen put the game away by finishing a long free kick from junior Jesse Shreck with assistance from senior Erica Kosienski.
  • The Terriers successfully defended against Navy's corner in the 89th minute to seal the victory.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, the Terriers have extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games (9-0-1) and have advanced to their fourth straight Patriot League title game after claiming the last three automatic NCAA berths.
  • Senior Bridget Conway recorded two saves in the first half, while Ciolek had three in the second for the Terriers.
  • Chen netted her second career goal and the first of the season.
  • With her team-leading fourth goal of the season, Doyle (4g,2a) is now tied with Shreck (3g,4a) in points at 10 apiece.
  • The Terriers finished with an 18-10 advantage in shots and 6-3 lead in corners, as Dayton Wetherby tallied six saves for the Midshipmen.
NEXT UP: BUCKNELL
  • The Terriers will face the host Bison on Sunday (Nov. 6) for the Patriot League title and automatic NCAA berth with the Patriot League Network broadcast set for 1 p.m.
  • BU is a perfect 3-0 in the Patriot League championship game and won last year's game at home against Bucknell, 1-0.
  • Bucknell won the first meeting this season, 2-0, in Lewisburg, Pa., for the Terriers' last defeat of the season.
