PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Highlighted by senior Lauren Davis' 100th-career win, the Boston University women's tennis team rallied from a set down in two singles matches to claim a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind win over Liberty at the Desert Princess Resort.
With their first one-point win of the season, the Terriers improve to 5-5, while the Flames fall to 5-7.
Liberty jumped out ahead by winning two of doubles contests, including a 7-5 decision at line 3, for the first point, but it wasn't enough, as BU captured four of the six singles points for the team victory.
Sophomore Iryna Kostirko and junior Barbara Rodriguez led BU in doubles with a 6-3 win in the No. 2 slot and carried the momentum to singles. The reigning PL Player of the Week Kostirko rolled to a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, while Rodriguez dropped just four games at line 6 (6-1, 6-3).
The Flames grabbed the 3-2 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over senior Kim McCallum at line 5 and 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 victory against freshman Remi Ramos in the No. 4 slot.
A three-time All-Conference First Team member, Davis dropped her first set in the top spot against 2015 All-Big South honoree Maria Khval but rallied for the 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win. She reached the 100-win milestone on 58 total singles wins and 42 doubles victories at BU.
Freshman Sabrina Faybyshev sealed the team win despite losing the first set and facing a 5-1 deficit in the second. She won six straight games to force a third set and then prevailed, 6-4, to clinch the final point (4-6, 7-5, 6-4).
The Terriers will next conclude the spring break trip in California at Loyola Marymount on Thursday (March 10) at 4:30 p.m. ET.
