
Terriers Complete Day One of PL Championships

LEWISBURG, PA - The Boston University women's track & field team competed on the first day of the Patriot League Championships at Bucknell on Friday.
BU is in sixth place with 13 points after six events. The Terriers combined for and earned 10 spots in various finals in tomorrow's sprints.
Freshman Lovie Burleson secured second in the long jump with a mark of 5.85 meters (19' 2.5"). Classmate Kennedy Jones also earned points in that event thanks to a leap of 5.42 meters (17' 9.5").
Three athletes are in second, third and fourth after the first day of the heptathlon. Senior Catherine Sampson is just 29 points behind the leader with a score of 2955, followed by juniors Christie Molloy (2757) and Adirenne Pascucci (2582).
A trio of Terriers qualified for Saturday's 100m dash final, led by senior Christy Wood (12.03). Wood's best time of the day came in the prelims, when she led the field with a time of 11.98 seconds.
Freshman Ebony Brown (12.41) and junior Ally Saccone (12.40) will both join Wood in the final, while sophomore Maya Marshall (12.44) and Burleson (12.70) each ran in Friday's semifinals. Like Wood, Burleson (12.41) and Saccone (12.37) each had stronger times in the prelims, both of which were personal bests.
Wood also led all sprinters in the prelims of the 200m dash with a time of 24.27 seconds. Brown (25.25) and freshman Jordan Coverson (25.40) also qualified for Saturday's final while Marshall posted a time of 25.65 seconds.
Four Terriers earned a spot in the final of the 100m hurdles, led by junior Toria Levy (13.98) and Saccone (14.09), who finished first and second, respectively. For Saccone, the time was a personal best, her second such achievement of the afternoon.
Sampson (14.82) and sophomore Tehya Noell (14.58) also made it to the final. Jones (15.12) and senior Sophie Jancsurak (15.36) both competed in that event as well.
The 4x800m relay team of sophomore Paige Ferrucci, senior Jade Paul, freshman Jamie Grossman and freshman Courtney Breiner earned three points thanks to a time of 9:11.00.
In the pole vault, junior Sarah Kert had a mark of 3.40 meters (11' 1.75") while freshman Rachel Wilhelm turned in a mark of 3.25 meters (10' 8"). Noell (5.08m 16' 8"), Brown (5.07m 16' 7.75") and Sampson (4.98m 16' 4.25") all competed in the long jump.
BU will look to complete a sweep of both the indoor and outdoor championships for the second time in three years on Saturday.
