TEMPE, Ariz. – A recipient of three major Patriot League awards last spring, Boston University women's tennis sophomore Sabrina Faybyshev has earned the Terriers' first-ever invitation to the prestigious Oracle ITA Masters tournament, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Monday afternoon.Â
Set to take place Oct. 13-16 at Malibu Racquet Club in Malibu, Calif., the Oracle ITA Masters was expanded from last year's 16-player field to 32 this season in order to feature the top returning player from each of the 28 conferences. The other four slots will be filled by either a wild card or an at-large selection. Faybyshev will represent the Patriot League in women's singles action and will also team with Army West Point's Michael Nguyen in mixed doubles.
The Marloboro, N.J., native had a strong freshman dual season in which she collected 10 singles victories and 12 doubles wins en route to Patriot League Rookie and Doubles Team of the Year accolades. Highlights included her teaming with Johanna Hyoty ('16) for a thrilling upset win over the No. 7 nationally-ranked duo from Dartmouth. She also dropped just 11 combined games during three days of singles and doubles action to claim PL Tournament MVP honors.
Led by 32nd-year head coach Lesley Sheehan, the Terriers will open the fall portion of the 2016-17 schedule at the Columbia Invitational on Sept. 16-18.
