Terriers Fall to Bucknell, 66-50

BOSTON – After leading Bucknell by two points late in the third quarter, the Bisons pulled away with a 15-2 run and went on to defeat the Boston University women's basketball team, 66-50, on Saturday at Case Gym. 
 
Junior Sophie Beaudry once again led the Terriers with 15 points while freshman Nia Irving also hit double digits in points with 10.

THE TURNING POINT
  • After junior center Sophie Beaudry hit a jumper to put BU up 35-33 with 3:54 remaining in the third period, Bucknell went on a 15-2 run to build a 48-37 lead at the end of three quarters.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bucknell's Kate Walker and Megan McGurk hit back-to-back 3-pointers with less then a minute to play in the first quarter to put the Bisons up 15-14 at the end of one quarter.
  • Meghan Doogan's 3-pointer with 2:28 to play in the second quarter capped a 7-0 run by the Terriers to tie the score at 25. Two free throws from Bucknell's Kaitlyn Slagus with 12 seconds to play made the score, 27-25 at the half.
  • Sophie Beaudry hit a jumper to put BU up 35-33 with 3:54 remaining in the third period, but Bucknell would go on a 15-2 run to build a 48-37 lead at the end of three.
  • Bucknell outscored the Terriers 18-13 in the fourth quarter, led by 8 points from sophomore guard Kate Walker who had a career high 22 points in the game.
  • Bucknell held BU to 25% shooting (5-20) in the fourth as the Bisons coasted home to the 66-50 final.
GAME NOTES
  • The teams were closely matched on the boards with Bucknell holding a slight 40-37 advantage in rebounds.
  • Bucknell shot 23-58 (39.7.9%) from the floor in the game while BU was 21-60 (35%).
  • BU was just 2-11 (18.2%) from beyond the arc while Bucknell was 6-26 (23.1%).
  • BU turned the ball over 11 times while Bucknell had 13 turnovers.
  • The Terrier defense held Colgate to 5-13 (38.5%) shooting in the first quarter.
