BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Lehigh at Case Gym on its annual Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day. The game is schedule for 2 p.m. and will also celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).
BU (6-13, 4-4 PL) will look to rebound following a 66-50 loss to Patriot League leader Bucknell on Saturday, while Lehigh (6-13, 1-7 PL) is coming off a 66-64 win against Lafayette on Saturday. The win was the Mountain Hawk's first Patriot League victory of the year.
Lehigh will look to avenge the Terriers' dramatic come-from-behind victory on Jan. 2, when the Terriers outscored Lehigh, 37-17 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 17-point deficit and pick up a 69-64 win at Stabler Arena.
Faculty, staff and their guests will receive free admission with advanced registration. As part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, youth will receive free admission and a Patriot League NGWSD t-shirt while supplies last.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers have had a week off since their last game, a 66-50 home loss to first-place Bucknell on Jan. 21.
- Junior Sophie Beaudry is averaging 12.5 points per game, good for 10th most in the conference.
- Senior Sarah Hope's 3-pointer at 9:04 of the fourth quarter against Bucknell was the 228 of her career. The Medway, Mass natives now needs 16 more 3-pointers to tie the all-time record of 244 held by Chantell Alford ('13).
- Hope is shooting 39.1% for the season from 3-point land, eighth best in the Patriot League, and her average of 3.3 treys per game is first in the Patriot League and 10th in the NCAA.
- Lehigh will be going for its second-consecutive win after beating Lafayette, 56-53 on Saturday.
- Lehigh dominated in points off turnovers against Lafayette, holding an 18-3 edge, and forced 20 turnovers.
- Freshman Gena Grundhoffer had game-highs of 17 points and nine rebounds in the win, while Camryn Buhr, Hannah Hedstrom and Bernadette Devaney added 11 points apiece for the Mountain Hawks.
- Quinci Mann leads the Mountain Hawks in scoring, averaging 15.4 ppg. while Grundhoffer is second with 9.8 ppg.
- Grundhoffer is also the team's leading rebounder, averaging 4.9 rpg.
SERIES HISTORY
- The series between the two teams is now tied at 5-5 after BU defeated Mountain Hawks, 69-64 on Jan. 2 at Lehigh.
- The Terriers outscored Lehigh 37-17 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 17-point deficit to pick up a 69-64 win at Stabler Arena.
- Freshman Nia Irving helped spark the game-ending 23-3 run by the Terriers, finishing with 26 points and 10 rebounds, including the game-winning bucket with 28 seconds to play.
