Terriers Compete at Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational
February 4, 2017 | Men's Track & Field, Women's Track & Field
BOSTON - Senior David Oluwadara broke his own school record in the triple jump as the Boston University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the newly-named Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday at the Track & Tennis Center.
Prior to the event, 35-year coach Bruce Lehane was honored in a brief ceremony that included family, friends, alumni and current student-athletes. A banner for the event was unveiled and hangs next to ones for the John Thomas Terrier Classic and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Oluwadara, who broke the 31-year-old triple jump record last year with a leap of 16.06 meters, had a jump of 16.07 meters (52' 8.75") on Saturday. That is the seventh-best mark in the nation and was good for second place.
BU began the event on Friday night with a new school record in the distance medley relay. Seniors Matti Groll and Ethan Homan joined junior Cameron Nurse and sophomore Alexander Seal to set the new school standard in the 4,000m event, crossing the finish line in 9:41.23 to place second. That time, now 10th-fastest in the nation, bested the previous BU record of 9:43.21, set in 2007.
The Terrier men finished third among all the teams in the event, scoring 77 points. Senior Cameron Williams was the lone victor, taking the 200m dash in 20.85 seconds, the 12th-fastest time in the nation. BU was sixth on the women's side with 49 points.
