Newcomers Shine for Men's Tennis at UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. – Led by a strong recruiting class ranked in TennisRecruiting.net's top-25 mid-major poll, the Boston University men's tennis team opened the fall schedule on a high note over the weekend at the UConn Invitational with a singles and doubles flight title. As a team, the Terriers posted a 15-7 record in singles and 9-2 mark in doubles.

In the B Singles Flight, both freshman Owen Lu and sophomore Marc Sable won three matches apiece in straight sets to clinch a share of the title. Freshmen Pedro Gutierrez (A) and Pete Siozios (C) also had strong performances reaching their respective final before coming up just short to competitors from Quinnipiac.

During doubles action, Lu and sophomore J.P. Avila earned three victories by a combined score of 19-12 to reach the finals of the top flight. They ended up sharing the title with sophomore-transfer Fabian Soemarno and junior Satyajit Simhadri, who collected a pair of wins following a first-round bye. Siozios and classmate David Bogatin also reached the final in the B flight, picking up three victories before being edged by UConn, 7-6.

The Terriers will remain in Connecticut and next participate in the Ivy Plus on Yale's campus.
