BOSTON - The Boston University women's cross country team competed at the Battle of Beantown on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.

Sophomore Abigail Gugel led the Terriers with a 75th-place finish. She completed the 5K race in 18:37. BU finished 20th overall as a team with 578 points.

Freshman Laura Parkinson made her collegiate debut and finished with a time of 19:19. She was followed closely by a pack of teammates that included junior Elin Wolker (19:19), senior Paige Ferrucci (19:20) and freshman Corrine Batsu.

Sophomore Ally Schlosser posed a time of 19:38, followed by classmates Victoria Sill (19:46) and Jamie Grossman (20:04). Freshman Stephanie Forbes (20:46) and sophomore Lauren Gruber (22:10) also raced on Friday.

"I am happy with our team but there is much work to do," head coach Paul Spangler said. "Many of the girls ran lifetime bests in sloppy conditions. Our 1-to-5 spread is pretty good at 40 seconds. We just need to continue to improve and move that group up. We sat out three of our top seven today and I know the potential is there to finish higher when they are on the line."

BU will return to competition next Friday, Sept. 29, when the Terriers travel to Lehigh to compete at the Paul Short Run.
