BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Boston University women's cross country team competed in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on Friday afternoon.
BU finished fifth in the 24-team field with a score of 150 points. Columbia won the race with 79 points.
Junior Courtney Breiner made her season debut and led the Terriers with a time of 21:56 over 6K, good for 14th place. She was one of three Terrier harriers in the top 30, as sophomores Abigail Gugel (22:19) and Ally Schlosser (22:20) finished 24th and 27th, respectively.
"I thought everyone did a really good job," head coach Paul Spangler said. "We had tons of PRs across the board. Ally ran really well, and it was great to see Courtney be at her lifetime best for her first race of the year."
Junior Elin Wolker was 34th with a time of 22:34, followed by senior Paige Ferrucci (22:41) in 51st. Freshmen Corrine Batsu (23:07) and Laura Parkinson (23:17) finished 72nd and 83rd, respectively. Sophomore Jamie Grossman posted a time of 23:22, while classmate Victoria Sill crossed the finsh line in 24:04.
"Today's performance gives them a lot of confidence," Spangler said. "To run PRs through 5K gives them confidence that training is going well and that they're fit. This will keep them motivated for the next couple weeks."
The Terriers will look to use the momentum from Friday's race when they travel to Louisville on Oct. 14 for Pre-Nationals.
