BOSTON - For the first time this season, the No. 24 Boston University field hockey team could not get on the scoreboard as it was edged by No. 17 Princeton, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.

The Tigers broke the stalemate in the 49th minute with a score off a penalty corner, as Maddie Basckai ripped a shot that was deflected off a Terrier defender and found its way into the back of the cage.

How It Happened

The defenses set the tempo of the game early on as neither team could gain offensive momentum, though BU held a 2-1 shot advantage through the opening 27 minutes.
Princeton applied heavy pressure to close out the half, launching its first shot on goal in the 28th minute, though Millie Baker made an impressive stick save to keep the scoreboard blank.
The Tigers continued to test BU's defense with back-to-back shots on goal, hitting the crossbar in the 30th minute before Baker drove away the follow-up shot.
On Princeton's third corner of the game, Basckai stroked a shot from the left side of the circle that deflected off a defender and rolled into the back of the cage.
BU held the Tigers to just three shots the rest of the game, but the Terriers couldn't get a shot off after Princeton's goal.

Game Notes

Baker made her first career start in net, finishing with two saves over 35 minutes.
Kathleen Keegan came on for the second half and recorded three saves.
Kiley Gallagher led BU with two shots on the afternoon, while Maika Akroyd and Maggie New registered one shot apiece.
The Tigers led in shots, 13-4, and penalty corners, 4-0.
Princeton extended its command to 10-3 in the all-time series and won its first game in Boston since 2003.
