PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seniors Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie each tallied a goal and an assist, but the Boston University women's ice hockey team dropped a 6-3 decision to No. 7 Providence on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Providence (14-6-5, 10-2-3 WHEA) scored twice in the opening period to grab a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
- BU (8-13-4, 4-10-3 WHEA) got on the board with a power-play goal at 9:49 of the second stanza. Sophomore Deziray De Sousa took a pass at the right circle from freshman Kristina Schuler and quickly shipped the puck across the zone to sophomore Natasza Tarnowski at the left post. The sophomore quickly cashed in for her third goal of the season.
- The Friars scored at the end of a 5-on-3 advantage to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission and then followed with a goal at 8:59 of the third period to extend the lead to 4-1.
- Bach answered with her 25th goal of the season with 6:37 remaining in regulation. As a BU penalty expired, senior captain Rebecca Leslie lofted a pass for Bach in the offensive zone. She skated in alone on Madison Myers (29 saves) and slid the puck underneath the netminder's pads. Redshirt sophomore Abbey Stanley also assisted on Bach's goal.
- BU pulled freshman goaltender Corinne Schroeder (29 saves) in favor of an extra attacker, but Providence notched an empty-netter with 2:41 to play to create a 5-2 score.
- The Terriers didn't quit, however, and Leslie got BU back within two at 5-3 with 1:53 to play thanks to her 16th goal of the season. Bach and junior Reagan Rust each assisted on the marker.
- With Schroeder once again off for an extra skater, Providence tallied another empty-netter to seal the victory.
ANOTHER GOAL FOR BACH
- Bach extended her point streak to 12 games with her second two-point effort of the weekend.
- She has notched 20 goals and 11 assists for 31 points during that stretch.
- Saturday was her third straight multi-point game.
- Bach has already surpassed her career high for goals in a season, doing so with her 24th strike of the year on Friday.
LESLIE WITH ANOTHER TWO-POINT AFTERNOON
- For the 10th time in 11 games, Leslie posted a multi-point effort.
- In addition to her 16th goal of the season, she added her team-leading 22nd assist of the year on Saturday.
- Leslie has recorded a point in 11 of her last 12 games dating back to Nov 10.
TWO STRAIGHT FOR TARNOWSKI
- Less than 24 hours after assisting on the game-winning goal on Friday night, Tarnowski tallied her third goal of the season on Saturday.
- She also lit the lamp against UConn on Nov. 10 and at Vermont on Nov. 17.
- Tarnowski has added eight assists this season for 11 points.
SCHULER STRIKES AGAIN
- Schuler also had a point in both games this weekend.
- In addition to her helper on Saturday, she assisted on Friday's game-winning goal.
- Schuler has notched two goals and five assists for seven points this season.
RUST KEEPS HER GOOD RUN GOING
- For the fifth time in six games, Rust found her way onto the scoresheet for the Terriers.
- She scored the game-winning goal on Friday as part of her two-point weekend.
- During the last six games Rust has totaled two goals and three assists for five points.
NO STOPPING STANLEY
- Stanley extended her point streak to four games with her assist on Saturday.
- She posted a career-best three helpers in Friday's victory and has tallied six assists during this four-game streak.
NEXT UP: NORTHEASTERN
- The Terriers will head across town to Matthews Arena on Tuesday night to face off against the Huskies.
