BOSTON – Coming off a thrilling 77-74 win at CAA preseason favorite Northeastern, the Boston University men's basketball team will open the home schedule against America East preseason favorite Vermont on Friday night with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. on NESNplus.
To celebrate the home opener, the team will have a free TV giveaway for all fans and an opportunity for a BU student to win a $400 travel voucher contest. Also, as part of Military Appreciation Night, there will be free admission for those with Military ID.TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers will host 14 opponents this season, starting with Friday night's home opener and Sunday's first-ever meeting with Emerson ... BU and the Catamounts will meet for the 100th time in program history.
- Vermont is the second of four straight NCAA Division I opponents coming off a 20+ win season ... The Catamounts are also the first of four America East opponents on the schedule with Albany, New Hampshire and UMass Lowell looming.
- In Tuesday's win, BU trailed by nine with under five minutes to go before rallying for the victory ... The Terriers went 1-14 in such situations a year prior.
- BU shot 49.2 percent from the field with the help of a 57.7 FG% performance in the second half, as eight Terriers hit at least two field goals apiece ... The Terriers held the Huskies to 44.6 FG% and 24.0 3FG% while posting a 7-5 advantage in steals.
- Junior Tyler Scanlon was the only player in the Patriot League last season to rank in the top 15 for assists, rebounds and steals ... He led the Terriers against Northeastern with a team-high 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one steal.
- After shooting a school-record 60.1 FG% last season, junior Max Mahoney went 5-of-8 (.625) against the Huskies en route to 12 points while adding six rebounds.
- Sophomore Javante McCoy tallied nine of his 13 points in the second and added three assists for the win.
- All six BU freshmen saw action with Alex Vilarino contributing eight points and Fletcher Tynen recording six points and five rebounds.
- The Catamounts are the defending America East regular season champions who fell in the conference tournament final to UMBC in a heartbreaker, 65-62 ... They finished with a 27-8 overall record and 15-1 conference mark.
- Vermont went 12-5 on the road compared to its 12-2 home record with highlight non-conference wins at Harvard, Yale and Richmond.
- UVM averaged 73.9 ppg and ranked 21st nationally last season in both field goal shooting percentage (48.8) and scoring defense (65.1 ppg).
- 6-foot-6 forward Anthomy Lamb is the top returning scorer (14.3 ppg) and rebounder (5.0 rpg) and was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference team alongside 6-foot-3 guard Ernie Duncan (10.8 ppg, 2.2 apg).
- The Catamounts feature five freshmen, including their first 7-footer (Jake Lorenzo) since 1995 and a 6-foot-5 guard (Robin Duncan) who ranked seventh nationally as a high school senior at 9.8 apg.
- The Terriers own a 55-44 all-time record against the Catamounts in a series that dates back to 1921-22.
- BU and Vermont were both members of the Yankee Conference before helping form the America East (then known as the ECAC North) in 1979 ... The Terriers departed for the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.
