BU, BC to Meet Tuesday Night for 40th Beanpot Championship

The Boston University women's ice hockey team will look to win its first Beanpot title as a varsity program on Tuesday night when the Terriers face No. 3 Boston College at Conte Forum. Puck drop for the 40th Women's Beanpot championship is set for 7:30 p.m.
COULD THIS BE THE YEAR?
- BU is still in search of its first Beanpot title as a varsity program.
- The Terriers' lone Beanpot title came in 1981, when they were still a club team.
40TH ANNIVERSARY TEAM SELECTIONS
- Two members of that 1981 championship squad, Lisa Whitcomb Huckins and Deb Gautreau Parece, were named to the 40th Anniversary Team earlier this year.
- As a freshman, Whitcomb Huckins did not allow a single goal in either game during the 1981 tournament en route to earing Most Valuable Player honors.
- Gautreau Parece scored two goals in the 1981 title game and also tallied a goal and assisted on the game-winner in the Terriers' opening-round victory.
TERRIERS IN THE TITLE GAME
- This is the Terriers' fourth title game appearance as a varsity program and their first since 2012 at Walter Brown Arena.
- BU has appeared in six championship contests overall, with the other two coming in 1981 and 1982.
- The Terriers' lone Beanpot came at the expense of Boston College, 4-0.
- BU also faced BC in the 2007 title tilt.
HISTORY IN THE BEANPOT
- The Terriers have defeated BC seven times in the Beanpot, the most wins over any of the other three schools in this tournament.
- The Terriers have tallied at least two goals in each of their last eight Beanpot contests.
BEST OF BU IN THE BEANPOT
- Victoria Bach (4g, 4a) leads the Terriers with four Beanpot points, just one point ahead of classmate Rebecca Leslie (1g, 6a).
- Leslie's six assists is most in program history in the Beanpot.
- Nina Rodgers tallied three points in her first year competing in the Beanpot last season.
- Jesse Compher lit the lamp last Tuesday, while Deziray De Sousa, Mary Grace Kelley and Abby Cook each have one Beanpot assist.
INSIDE THE GREEN LINE RIVALRY
- Tuesday will be the 52nd all-time meeting between BU and BC.
- The Terriers are 17-27-7 all-time against the Eagles, including a 7-11-4 record at Conte Forum.
- BC escaped with a 3-2 win in the opening round of last year's Beanpot.
- BU went 0-2-1 against the Eagles this season in Hockey East play, including a 2-2 tie at Conte Forum on Dec. 1.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE EAGLES
- BU led, 1-0, after the first period and had the game tied, 2-2, after 40 minutes, but two third-period strikes gave BC a 4-2 road win on Dec. 2.
- Senior captain Rebecca Leslie scored both Terrier goals.
- Freshman Nara Elia, sophomore Abby Cook, junior Mary Grace Kelley and senior Victoria Bach all added one assist.
- Senior Erin O'Neil made 35 saves.
BEST OF BU AGAINST BC
- Rebecca Leslie has a team-high 102points thanks to a team-leading five goals and a team-best seven assists.
- Nina Rodgers also has five goals against BC in addition to an assist for six points.
- Victoria Bach has tallied eight points (2g, 6a) while Deziray De Sousa (1g, 1a), Mary Grace Kelley (1g, 1a) and Abby Cook (3a) also have multiple points against the Eagles.
- Jesse Compher, Nara Elia, Reagan Rust and Natasza Tarnowski each have one helper against BC.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- BC got to Tuesday's title tilt thanks to a 5-2 win over Northeastern.
- The Eagles suffered a 2-1 home setback to New Hampshire on Friday.
- Freshman Daryl Watts leads the NCAA in goals (37) and points (72) and also has 35 assists.
- Sophomore Caitrin Lonergan has an NCAA-best 38 assists.
- Senior goaltender Katie Burt has started all 31 games, posting a 2.05 GAA and a .928 save percentage.
NEXT UP: NEW HAMPSHIRE
- Following Tuesday's title tilt, the Terriers will conclude the regular season with a home-and-home series against New Hampshire.
- BU will head to Durham on Saturday (2 p.m.) before returning home to Walter Brown Arena on Sunday for Senior Day at 3 p.m.
