Boston - The No. 2 Boston University women's lightweight rowing team will take on No. 1 Stanford on Saturday in a battle between the two best lightweight rowing programs in the country.

The Terriers will send out two boats on Saturday, taking on the three-time defending IRA National Champions' varsity eight and second varsity eight boats in duel races. The first race of the day is scheduled for 8:48 a.m. followed by the 2V at 9:12 a.m.

"We always look forward to competing against Stanford, a team we have battled many times at the IRA Championships," said Boston University lightweight rowing coach Malcolm Doldron. "We know we will compete against them down the road this season so this is a great opportunity for some competitive rowing which will help us gauge where our team is at."

Last year at the IRA National Championship Regatta, the Terriers finished second in the varsity eight grand final and second in team points behind Stanford for the second-consecutive year. Stanford has won the IRA lightweight title for the past three years.

BU last defeated Stanford at the Knecht Cup on April 9, 2017 when the lightweight V8 defeated the Stanford Lightweight V8 in the openweight grand final (6:45.77 to 6:47.36). Stanford however avenged the loss in the lightweight grand final later in the same regatta (6:44.26 to 6:46.75).

After Sunday's competition, the Terriers will continue their spring schedule when they travel to Collingswood, N.J. to race in the Knecht Cup on April 14-15.

This year's IRA National Championship Regatta is scheduled for June 1-3, also in Collingswood, N.J.
