BOSTON – Highlighted by another record-breaking performance by senior Sarah Cicchetti in the weight throw, the Boston University women's track & field team continued its indoor season on Friday by hosting the John Thomas Terrier Classic at BU's Track and Tennis Center.

Cicchetti broke her own school record in the weight throw with a toss of 17.66 meters (57'11.25"), breaking the record of 17.27 meters (56'8") she set at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener back on Dec. 1.

The women's team had several other strong performances as well. Junior Leah Fowlkes finished fifth in the 500m dash with an excellent time of 1:14.27 which is the fastest time in the Patriot League this season. Freshman Alicia Thomas made her debut in the 200m and finished ninth with a personal best time of 25.07 in a field of 157 runners. Overall, the Terriers competed against a very large and deep field made up of approximately 1,500 athletes representing over 150 universities and clubs.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

Senior Sarah Cicchetti broke her own school record in the weight throw with a toss of 17.66 meters (57'11.25"). She set the record of 17.27m at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 1. Cicchetti finished third in the event (second among collegians) in a large field of 45 throwers.
Junior Leah Fowlkes finished fifth in the 500m dash with a time of 1:14.27 in a field of 44 while sophomore Emily Turner finished ninth in the same race with a time of 1:15.74, a new personal best.
Freshman Alicia Thomas made her debut in the 200m dash and finished ninth with a personal-best time of 25.07 while sophomore Cecelia Gerstenbacher finished 21st with a time of 25.40.
Senior Ebony Brown finished 14th in the 60m dash invitational in a field of 26 with a time of 7.96.
Junior Coco Ocker made her debut in the 1-mile run and finished 35th in a field of 105 with a time of 5:06.36.
The 4x400m "A" relay team of Bridget Chiaravalle, Jordan Coverson, Mikajah Hayes and Leah Fowlkes finished seventh with a time of 3:53.00.
Freshman Jessica Kellar made her debut in the 3000m run and finished with a time of 10:05.36.
In the field, senior Lovie Burleson finished second in the long jump in a field of 46 with a 5.86m (19'2.75") leap.
Bridget Bishop finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 13.29m (43' 7.25").

The John Thomas Terrier Classic continues on Saturday, Jan. 26th at the TTC with the men's competition scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. After this weekend, BU will next host the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 2nd.
