RedHawks Hold Off Women's Tennis in Singles Action, 5-2

ALLSTON, Mass. – Competing in its first dual match of the year, the Boston University women's tennis team swept through doubles but came up just short in four hard-fought three-set singles matches to fall to Miami University, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at Harvard's Murr Center.

- The Terriers won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 18-8 with senior Remi Ramos and sophomore Katya Martens dropping just one game at line 3.
- Freshman Shelly Yaloz and sophomore Emily Kim posted a 6-3 victory in the top slot, while senior Sabrina Faybyshev and sophomore Lily Burchell prevailed, 6-4, at line 2.
- Coming off Friday's three-set win over Harvard's No. 1 singles player Erica Oosterhout, reigning Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Week and former Canadian Junior Fed Cup member Brindtha Ramasamy rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win against Ramos to tie the match at 1-1.
- Priyana Kalita then rallied from a set down to edge Burchell, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at line 3 to briefly give Miami the 2-1 advantage.
- Faybyshev claimed BU's lone point in singles action with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win in the No. 6 slot to tie the match again, 2-2.
- The RedHawks pulled away by capturing the final three points against Kim (#2), Yaloz (#3) and Martens (#5) in three sets.
- Yaloz won the most games of the three, as she battled 2018 MAC All-Tournament Team honoree Emily Struble to a 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 decision.
- Faybyshev won her first match in dual action for the first time since 2017 after missing all of last spring due to injury.
- Yaloz and Kim continued their stellar play in doubles, improving their overall record to 12-2.
- 2018 MAC runner-up Miami won the first meeting between the two teams since BU prevailed, 5-2, in 2015 at Dartmouth ... The RedHawks previously prevailed in 2013 at Yale.
- The Terriers will be part of a BU tennis tripleheader on Sunday (Jan. 27) at the Track and Tennis Center, as they will host Providence at 2 p.m.
- The men will host Siena at 9:30 a.m. and then Sacred Heart following the women's match at approximately 6:30 p.m.
- The women are facing Providence for the first time since claiming a 6-1 road victory in 2000.
