Field Hockey huddle - 2019

Terriers to Visit No. 15 Harvard Wednesday in Non-Conference Finale

October 28, 2019

The Boston University field hockey team will close out its non-conference schedule on Wednesday (Oct. 30) with a short trip to No. 14 Harvard. Game time at Berylson FIeld is set for 6 p.m.

The Terriers (6-10) are coming off a two-win weekend, capped by a 2-0 victory over UMass in their final home game of the season. On Saturday, BU rallied from three separate one-goal deficits to pull off a 5-4 road win at Holy Cross and keep its hopes for a Patriot League tournament berth alive.

Harvard (19-4) fell to No. 9 Princeton, 3-2, on Saturday in a battle for first place in the Ivy League. The Crimson had won nine of its previous 10 games before facing Princeton.

This year's Harvard team has a balanced scoring attack as four players have each tallied at least 15 points and five goals apiece. Senior Bente van Vlijmen has a team-best 19 points on seven goals and five assists while sophomore Rachel Greenwood is right behind with 18 points (7g, 4a). Senior Casey Allen (5g, 6a) and junior Mimi Tarrant (6g, 3a) have added 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Sophomore Ellie Shahbo has started all 14 games in goal and sports a 1.08 goals-against average, which ranks 10th nationally, and a .769 save percentage, which is good for 13th.

Junior Ailsa Connolly, who scored twice in the win over the Crusaders, now has a team-high 21 points on eight goals and five assists. Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Jodie Conolly tallied three of her seven goals in the Holy Cross game and has added three assists for 17 points. All the scoring in the UMass win came from senior Kiley Gallagher, who has accumulated 11 points on four goals and three assists.

Both BU goalkeepers - senior Livy Golini and freshman Caroline Kelly - have earned three wins this season. Golini is coming off a strong weekend during which she picked up her first shutout as a Terrier and lowered her goals-against average to 2.02.

The Terriers are 20-15-1 all-time against the Crimson but have come up short in the past three meetings, including a 2-0 contest at New Balance Field last season.
