Gugel & Burleson Win Gold in Day One of PL Championships

RESULTS | MEN'S RECAP
Annapolis, Md. - Highlighted by gold-medal performances from senior Lovie Burleson and junior Abigail Gugel, the Boston University women's track & field team competed in day one of the Patriot League Championships on Saturday at Navy's Wesley Brown Fieldhouse.
Burleson won gold in the long jump with a 5.89 meters (19'4") effort, outdistancing Alexandra Curtain of Holy Cross (5.87m) on her final jump of the event. Gugel took home gold in the 5000 meter run with an incredible time of 17:07.95, winning the event by more than five seconds and shattering her previous personal best of 17:43.99.
In addition to Gugel and Burleson, sophomore Bridget Chiaravalle finished second in the prelims of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.83 (a new personal best) and qualified for Sunday's finals.
Junior Leah Fowlkes finished first in the 200m prelims with a time of 24.50 to easily qualify for Sunday's finals along with senior Ebony Brown who finished sixth and qualified with a time of 24.97. Brown also qualified for the finals of the 60m dash by finishing sixth in the prelims with a time of 7.81.
Senior Sarah Cicchetti finished just off the medal stand in fourth place in the weight throw with a throw of 17.39 meters (57'.75").
Junior Ava Gruzen had a strong performance in the pentathlon, finishing fifth with a new personal best of 3,229 points to earn the Terriers four points in the standings.
BU finished day one of the PL Championships in fourth place (just one point out of second place) with 32 points through six events with 14 events still to be decided.
