Terriers Finish Fifth at PL Championships

RESULTS

Annapolis, Md. - Highlighted by a silver medal performance in the distance medley relay, the Boston University men's track & field team finished fifth at the 2019 Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championship, which concluded Sunday at Navy's Wesley Brown Fieldhouse.
 
The DMR team of Paul Luevano, Robie Webster, Marcel Aubry and Johnathon Kemps won silver with a time of 9:56.74. Kemps, running the final leg, came close to winning gold for the Terriers but was held off at the finish by Army's Keagan Smith who finished first with a time of 9:56.64.

Army West Point won the Patriot League title with, 260 points, edging its arch rival Navy who finished second with 243.5 points. The title was the first for Army since 2010.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES  
  • In the first running event on Sunday, senior Johnathon Kemps got the Terriers off on the right foot by winning bronze in the mile with a time of 4:12.34, just behind Jake Brophy of Navy (4:11.26) and Keagan Smith of Army (4:12.17).
  • The DMR team of Paul Luevano, Robie Webster, Marcel Aubry and Johnathon Kemps won silver with a time of 9:56.74 just behind Army who won the gold with a time of 9:56.64 in a very exciting race.
  • Sophomore Nikolas Smith finished fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 48.92 to earn the Terriers five points, while junior Jamin Harris was sixth with a time of 49.93.  
  • Junior Paul Luevano finished fourth in the 800m run with a time of 1:52.56.
  • Freshman Marcel Aubry had a strong showing in the 1000m run, finishing fourth with a time of 2:28.24.
  • On Saturday, the 4x800m relay team of Michael Huber, Marcel Aubry, Johnathon Kemps and Paul Luevano finished in fifth place with a time of 7:39.65 to earn the Terriers four points.
  • In the final event of the meet, the 4x400 relay team of Nikolas Smith, Chiebuka Onwuzurike, Jamin Harris and Ebruba Etta finished just off the medal stand in fourth with a time of 3:18.68, just behind third-place Bucknell (3:18.39).
