PAXTON, Mass. – Competing for the first time following a two-week break, the Boston University men's tennis team opened Patriot League play with a 4-0 sweep over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at the Paxton Tennis and Fitness Club.
The Terriers (6-11, 1-0 PL) won the first two doubles matches and then quick claimed three singles points in straight sets to defeat the Crusaders (4-11, 0-6 PL).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Ethan Kolsky and freshman Max Stehling started off with a 6-1 win at line 3 in doubles.
- Sophomores Owen Lu and Pete Siozios clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory in the top slot.
- Kolsky carried momentum from doubles to singles with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory at line 6.
- Junior Marc Sable dropped just three games at line 5, while sophomore Pedro Gutierrez posted a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 4 slot to clinch the final point.
NEXT UP: NAVY AND LAFAYETTE
- The Terriers will continue conference play and head to the Winchester Indoor Tennis Club on Sunday (March 31) to face both defending PL champion Navy (11 a.m.) and Lafayette (4 p.m.).
- BU edged Midshipmen, 4-3, during the regular season but fell to top-seed Navy, 4-3, in the PL semifinals.
- The Terriers will meet the Leopards since claiming a 4-0 road victory in 2015.
