Men's Tennis Records DH Split with Win over Lafayette, Loss to Navy

WINCHESTER, Mass. – Playing their final matches of the season in Massachusetts, the Boston University men's tennis team recorded a doubleheader split with a 4-0 win over Lafayette and 4-1 loss to defending PL champion Navy on Sunday afternoon at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Club.

With the split following Saturday's win over Holy Cross, the Terriers moved to 7-12 and 2-1 in conference play, while the Midshipmen 23-13 (2-0 PL), while the Leopards fell to 3-8 (1-4 PL).

MATCH 1: Navy 4, BU 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

A 4-3 win over BU in the 2018 PL semifinals, the Midshipmen posted identical 6-2 victories in the No. 1 and 3 slots to jump out to a 1-0 lead, as freshman Max Hartenstein and junior J.P. Avila were in a 5-5 deadlock at line 2.
Sophomore Pete Siozios cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win in singles at line 3 to tie the score, 1-1.
Navy though captured three other singles points in straight sets to prevent the Terriers from mounting a rally.
After BU had to retire in the No. 2 match, the Mids dropped six games apiece at lines 5 and 6, respectively.
Freshman Max Hartenstein was in a 6-4, 3-6 deadlock when their match was halted.

MATCH 2: BU 4, Lafayette 0

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomores Owen Lu and David Bogatin claimed a 6-2 win at line 1 doubles, while sophomore Ethan Kolsky and Siozios matched their efforts in the No. 3 slot.
Both Hartenstein (#3) and Avila (#6) posted identical 6-1, 6-0 victories to extend the lead to 3-0.
Kolsky clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at line 5.
Both Lu and Siozios won their respective first sets before their matches were halted.

NEXT UP: ARMY WEST POINT

BU will next visit the Black Knights on Friday (April 5) for a 4 p.m. start time.
The Terriers dropped a 4-1 decision to Army at Holy Cross last season.
