BOSTON — The Boston / New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) recently announced the 2019 Collegiate Student Awards for Excellence and the College of Communication's BUTV10 was recognized in four categories, earning three wins and an honorable mention.

Highlighting the collection of awards was BUTV10's production of
Boston University Basketball winning for Best Live Sports Event.

Boston University's College of Communication and Department of Athletics work together to provide a unique co-curricular learning environment where students gain hands-on experience during live broadcast productions at various athletic events on campus.

Now completing the sixth year of this collaborative initiative, the two BU entities partner to produce more than 120 live broadcasts for 17 different teams each year. This includes 26 men's and women's basketball broadcasts on the New England Sports Network (NESN) and Patriot League Network (PLN). The BUTV10 production crew is the only all-student crew in the Patriot League and the only all-student crew among the four NCAA Division I schools in Boston.

"We started this collaboration with the idea of producing professional-level broadcasts in an educational setting and we couldn't be more excited for BUTV10's recognition," said Director of Athletics
Drew Marrochello. "This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication to excellence by the students at this University, as well as the faculty and staff who support them. The leadership and vision from Tom Fiedler and Chris Cavalieri has been essential to this successful endeavor. We wish Tom the best in his retirement and thank him for all the support."
Other accolades included BUTV10's live 2018 midterm election coverage,
Midterm Mandate, winning the award for Best Newscast and sports talk show
Offsides winning the award for Best Sports Program, claiming the category for the second year in a row.
Amber, BUTV10's bilingual cultural series, received an honorable mention in the Arts & Entertainment/Cultural Affairs category.Â

"These awards speak to the range of talent and incredible effort that our membership puts forward to create innovative and high-quality content. This achievement also reflects the effort and support of the College of Communication, the Department of Athletics, and the entire University."

With this year's recognitions, BUTV10 has won 13 NATAS Collegiate Student Production Awards since 2013.
