BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Highlighted by several student-athletes outperforming their rankings throughout the meet, the Boston University men's track & field team finished fifth at the 2020 Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championship, which concluded Sunday at Lehigh University's Rauch Field House.
The Terriers were led by a gritty performance from senior
Paul Luevano who won bronze in the 1 mile run, finishing third with a time of 4:18.06, just behind Keegan Smith of Army (4:17.10) and Chase Rivera of Navy (4:17.64) in a very close race. In the same event, freshman
Foster Malleck, who was seeded 10th, finished an impressive fourth with a time of 4:18.97.
Competing in the weight throw,
Clint Lockwood, who entered the meet ranked 18th in the PL, shattered his personal best with a throw of 17.39m (57'0.75") to finish seventh overall and earn the Terriers two hard-fought points.
Senior
Chiebuka Onwuzurike had a strong performance in the 60m dash, winning bronze with a time of 6.90, just behind silver medalist Evan Lexo of Navy who finished with a time of 6.89.
On Saturday, junior
Brett Davidson took third in the 5000m with a time of 14:34.13 to earn the Terriers their first medal of the championship meet. Davidson was just edged Army's Ben Petrella who finished second with a time of 14:32.34 to earn silver.
Nikolas Smith had a strong meet, advancing the the finals in both the 200m and the 400m and finishing eighth in both.

"I am really pleased and excited about both our teams' performances this weekend," said Boston University director of track and field Gabe Sanders after the meet. "We had student-athletes up and down our lineups who outperformed their rankings and who had their best day. They came here and fought hard in every single event and I couldn't be more proud of their effort. I think the entire coaching staff did a tremendous job and I know this weekend's performance will set the tone for years to come."

TOP PERFORMERS
- Senior Paul Luevano won bronze in the 1 mile run, finishing third with a time of 4:18.06, just behind only Keegan Smith of Army (4:17.10) and Chase Rivera of Navy (4:17.64) in a very close race.
- Freshman Foster Malleck also competed in the mile and finished just off the medal stand in fourth place with a time of 4:18.97.
- Senior Chiebuka Onwuzurike won bronze in the 60m dash with a time of 6.90, just edged out for silver by Navy's Evan Lexo who finished with a time of 6.89.
- Jonathan Fierro had a strong performance in the 3000m run, finishing fifth with a time of 8:25.99 to earn BU four points. Fierro, who was seeded 10th entering the race, challenged for the lead over the final lap of the race.
- Nikolas Smith advanced to the 200m finals and finished eighth with a time of 22.79. Smith also advanced to the finals of the 400m and finished eighth with a time of 51.55.
- Despite being seeded 10th, Ebruba Etta advanced to the finals of the 60m dash and finished eighth with a time of 7.07.
- In the field, Clint Lockwood shattered his personal best in the weight throw with a 17.39m (57'0.75") effort to finish seventh overall and earn the Terriers two points. Lockwood entered the meet ranked 18th.
- Emeka Ibeh had a personal best long jump with a 6.32m (19'10.75") jump, finishing 13th.
- The 4x800m relay team of Michael Huber, Tommy Quinn, Marcel Aubry, Hayden Jennings finished fifth with a time of 7:57.08 to earn BU four team points.
