ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Former Boston University men's lacrosse standout Cal Dearth helped the Boston Cannons claim the 2020 Major League Lacrosse title on Sunday afternoon, as the Cannons defeated the Denver Outlaws, 13-10.
Dearth ('17), a four-year veteran of the MLL, played in every game of the shortened 2020 season for the Cannons, tallying two assists and five ground balls in six games. He is the second Terrier to be part of an MLL champion; Dearth's classmate, Dominick Calisto, won the 2017 MLL title with the Ohio Machine.
Two other Terriers had terrific seasons for their respective MLL franchises. James Burr ('19) helped the Outlaws reach the title game in his first year with the club. He notched four goals and three assists for seven points while adding six ground balls. Burr burst onto the scene for the Outlaws with five points in his first two tilts, including a three-point effort (1g, 2a) in his Denver debut.
Rookie Chase Levesque ('20) impressed in his first professional campaign for the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Levesque was a factor at both ends of the field, as the dynamic LSM recorded nine ground balls and three caused turnovers in addition to tallying two goals and one assist.
One more Terrier began his first professional season on Saturday, as Reece Eddy ('20) made his Premier Lacrosse League debut for Chrome Lacrosse Club. Eddy made an immediate impact, scooping up four ground balls in a comeback victory.
