HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers got off to a perfect start, scoring just 3:19 into the game before quickly adding a pair of power-play goals to take a 3-0 lead.
- Redshirt junior Ty Amonte, who missed all of last season due to injury, redirected a Farrance offering to the back of the net from the slot to open the scoring.
- Exactly a minute later, BU converted on its first power play of the night as Farrance blasted a shot from the right point to create a two-goal cushion.
- PC went back to the box and the Terriers pounced on the chance with sophomore Jay O'Brien scoring his second goal in as many nights on a left-circle effort off helpers from classmate Domenick Fensore and Farrance, creating a 3-0 advantage just 6:40 into the contest.
- The Friars wasted little time making up their losses on special teams, getting a full two-minute 5-on-3 advantage and scoring on both to make it a 3-2 affair.
- Uula Ruikka got the home squad on the board at 13:09 of the first before Tyce Thompson added another just 44 seconds later, which came off a 6-on-4 delayed penalty.
- The aforementioned penalty put the Terriers down a man once again but Cockerill ended up turning the tides by picking off a pass at the top of the BU zone before converting a shorthanded breakaway at the 14:13 mark of the opening stanza to push the BU lead back to two.
- After Craig Needham scored for the Friars at 4:23 of the second, Boguslavsky scored what would be the game-winner just over three mintues later when he redirected a bid from classmate Alex Vlasic past PC netminder Jaxson Stauber.
- The Friars refused to back down, however, and made it a one-goal game once again at the 14:16 mark of the second with a goal from Matt Koopman.
- A back-and-forth third period ensued and the Terrier defense came up big down the stretch to hold off the Friars and tack on an empty-netter from Cockerill in the closing seconds to seal the 6-4 win.
- This was the first two-goal game of Cockerill's career.
- Amonte's last goal came in the 2019 Hockey East semifinals, which ended up being BU's final contest that season.
- In last season's visit to Providence, the teams also had a wild contest with the Friars eking out a 6-5 win despite four points from Farrance including a hat trick.
- BU went 2-for-4 on the power play while PC was 2-for-5.
- Stauber made 14 saves in goal for the Friars, who held a 36-20 shot advantage.
- The Terriers are scheduled to face No. 15/13 UMass Lowell next weekend in a home-and-home series beginning Friday (Jan. 15) at Walter Brown Arena.
- The River Hawks postponed their games this weekend and this upcoming Tuesday due to a Covid-related pause.
