BOSTON – Boston University men's soccer head coach
Kevin Nylen has announced the signing of Pierce Sabin as the newest member of the program. Pierce joins the Terriers through a partnership with Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.
Pierce is a courageous seven-year-old who hails from Quincy, Massachusetts, and was diagnosed three years prior with a genetic condition called retinoschisis. He had begun integrating himself with the team earlier in the fall and was officially introduced as a Terrier at a draft day press conference on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Nickerson Field, where he signed his official letter of intent.
Pierce's family was in attendance, along with all of his new teammates and members of the Boston University department of athletics. Now an official member of the men's soccer team, Pierce will continue to be a fixture at games, practices and other team related functions.
"Saturday was a great day for Pierce, his family and the entire BU men's soccer program," said head coach
Kevin Nylen. "Pierce has an ability to make everyone around him smile and we witnessed that and got to be part of his day. October 16, 2021 is Pierce's day, and we are very grateful for our friendship with him."
Pierce's official addition to the roster was immediately felt Saturday evening after the ceremony, as he remained on hand to support his teammates in a 2-0 victory over Colgate. Sophomore
Eitan Rosen scored both goals in the first half and made sure to run across the field to celebrate his first-career brace with Pierce following the second score in front of a national audience on ESPN+.
Saturday's announcement marks the seventh time the Boston University Terriers have partnered with Team IMPACT with the women's ice hockey, women's basketball, women's soccer, men's lacrosse and men's basketball program (2x) all previously accepting matches dating back to the fall of 2012.
