BOSTON – Riding a three-game winning streak, the Boston University men's basketball team will host in-state rival and 2021 America East runner-up UMass Lowell on Wednesday night with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is off to its best start through 10 games since opening an identical 7-3 in 2004-05.
- Trying to start a season 4-0 at home for the first time since 2016, the Terriers are currently 3-0 with wins against Binghamton (68-63), Merrimack (61-60) and Gordon College (85-61).
- BU is 2-0 against the America East, collecting the win over the Bearcats and a 75-70 victory at defending conference champion Hartford.
- Averaging a team-high 18.2 ppg, graduate student Javante McCoy ranks third nationally in 3-point field goal shooting percentage at 55.6% while also adding a team-high 2.8 apg and 1.1 spg.
- Classmate Sukhmail Mathon most recently earned his third double-double of the season to increase his season averages to 12.4 ppg and 8.9 rpg.
- Senior Fletcher Tynen (6.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg) tied a personal-best with seven rebounds to help BU more than double-up Binghamton in rebounds, 41-20.
- As a team, BU is averaging 68.3 ppg and 45.2 FG% while holding teams to 62.6 ppg and 43.0 FG%. The Terriers have been adding three more made free throws per game with two extra 3-pointers as well.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
- The River Hawks shared two non-conference opponents with BU so far, claiming a 67-56 win at George Washington and most recently a 61-57 victory at Merrimack.
- UMass Lowell is 4-2 away from home, claiming a 59-58 win at Dayton and 77-53 neutral victory against Central Connecticut State.
- All three losses have been by double digits to UMass (92-81), Oklahoma State (80-58) and Brown (73-63).
- Everette Hammond leads UML at 11.1 ppg, while Max Brooks owns 11.0 ppg and a team-high 5.1 rpg with 15 blocks.
- Overall, UML is averaging 73.1 ppg and 45.0 FG% while holding teams to 62.4 ppg and 39.6 FG% with the help of nine steals per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 5-3 all-time in the series after claiming a 74-62 road victory in 2019 and 79-60 home win in 2018.
- The River Hawks though won three of the previous four meetings, including 69-59 decision at Case Gym in 2014.
