The No. 11/12 Boston University men's ice hockey team will look to continue its winning ways when it travels to face UConn on Saturday (Feb. 20) at Freitas Ice Forum. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
The Terriers (8-2-0) are in second place in the Hockey East Power Index (HEPI), just 0.12 behind first-place Boston College. Winners of eight of their past nine contests, their 8-2-0 record is the program's third-best start through 10 games over the past 24 seasons.
Freshman goaltender Vinny Duplessis claimed a second consecutive weekly Hockey East award as he earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades for allowing just one goal in the weekend sweep at Vermont. Sophomore Jay O'Brien is coming off a hat-trick performance in a 5-1 win over the Catamounts on Saturday and he is now averaging a point per game while leading the team in goals with six.
UConn (8-8-2) past four games have been against four different opponents and most recently dropped a 4-0 road contest to Providence on Feb. 12. The Huskies are fourth in the HEPI thanks in large part to their strength of schedule thus far and their top wins have come against Boston College, Providence and Northeastern.
Junior Jonny Evans is having an impressive season, leading UConn in points (22) and goals (10). Classmates Jáchym Kondelík (16a) and Carter Turnbull (8g, 4a) have added 16 and 12 points, respectively, and sophomore Vladistav Firstov has chipped in 11 (3g, 8a).
In goal, junior Tomáš Vomáčka has played every minute in goal for the Huskies and sports a .916 save percentage and a 2.58 goals-against average.
