Men's Tennis Blanks Merrimack in Season Opener, 7-0

HAVERILL, Mass. – The Boston University men's tennis team opened the 2021 spring campaign with a dominating 7-0 victory over Merrimack Saturday afternoon at Cedardale Health & Fitness.
Seeing their first action in 354 days, the Terriers (1-0) won the three doubles matches by a combined score of 19-11 and captured all six singles points in straight sets against the Warriors (0-1).

- Senior Pete Siozios and sophomore Jon-Kyle Tan start things off in doubles with a 6-2 win at line 3.
- Playing in the top slot, senior David Bogatin and freshman Johann Sajonz earned a 6-4 victory, while senior Owen Lu and freshman Jose Maria Robalino edged their counterparts by an identical two games (7-5) at No. 2.
- Siozios earned the first singles point as he led 6-3, 1-0 when his opponent retired in the No. 2 slot.
- Both freshmen Sajonz (#4) and Robalino (#5) dropped the fewest games (5) in a completed match.
- Playing in the top match, Bogatin won his first set in comfortable fashion and held off Jan Semerak, who previously achieved a top-10 junior ranking in the Czech Republic, in the second for the 6-2, 6-4 victory.
- Lu (#3) and freshman Tanisq Mallpani (#6) completed the sweep in straight sets in their respective matches, dropping seven games apiece.
- The two teams will square off again Sunday (Feb. 28) at Cederdale with a 1 p.m. start time.
