BOSTON – Looking to carry momentum from a weekend sweep at Lafayette, the Boston University men's basketball team will continue its six-game road trip at Colgate with both Saturday and Sunday's contests slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The Terriers (3-5) used a strong defensive effort to hold the Leopards 13 points below their season average and to 40.5 FG% in the two victories (81-76, 64-61). Senior Sukhmail Mathon (10.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg) averaged a team-high 8.5 rpg while adding four blocks. Senior Javante McCoy totaled 30 points to remain the team leader in scoring at 16.5 ppg with Whyte next at 13.7 ppg. Both Whyte and McCoy are two of the seven Terriers to have hit at least five 3-pointers this year.
3-point shooting could prove key this weekend, as the Raiders (7-1) are averaging nine treys per game and 37.9 3FG% while holding opponents to 24.4 3FG% and 5.4 3-pointers. Colgate is on a four-game win streak with all four victories coming against Holy Cross, including a 78-60 victory last Sunday that was preceded by Saturday's 74-63 OT win. Jordan Burns leads Colgate at 17.6 ppg and 5.6 apg with Jeff Woodward averaging a team-high 8.4 rpg alongside 9.4 ppg. The Raiders own a 21.4 point scoring margin this year with the lone loss coming against Army (75-73) after a 101-57 win.
The Terriers will be making their first trek to Cotterell Court since capturing the Patriot League title last year in a 64-61 thriller on March 11. BU held Colgate to a season-low four 3-pointers on 22 attempts to claim the win. The Raiders avenged the loss by winning both games at BU back in January, 86-79 and 89-45. BU leads the all-time series, 29-26, and is 2-2 in the last four visits to Hamilton, New York.
