Terriers Continue Season at Battle in Beantown
September 24, 2021 | Women's Cross Country
BOSTON - The Boston University women's cross country team competed at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.
BU finished 16th with a score of 424 in a field of 22 teams. North Carolina won the event with 63 points. The Terriers were just four points behind Army West Point.
"Everyone battled today," associate head cross country coach Jordan Carpenter said. "This field had a number of the top teams in the country, and our runners took some risks to mix it up with those programs. We had some athletes step up and run really well and others didn't quite run to the level they know that they can; we saw that in the team finish. We are excited to show how strong we are as a team in the weeks ahead. Today was a great building day as we look towards championship season."
Graduate student Corinne Batsu led the Terriers with a 5K time of 18:19, good for 56th overall in a field of 195 runners. Classmate Veronica Kriss was 80th with a time of 18:30, followed by senior Madeline Bachmann (18:43) in 94th. Sophomore Daisy Liljegren (18:52) and freshman Sarah Hanifin (19:05) rounded out the Terrier scorers, with senior Angela Castronuovo (19:28), sophomore Addie Marple (19:32), sophomore Claire Wilson (20:13) and senior Kalie Mathis (20:40) also racing. Junior Anna Kavanagh (21:36) and freshman Olivia Duca (22:34) raced for BU in the open 5K event.
The Terriers will be back in action next weekend, as they travel to Lehigh for the Paul Short Run on Friday, Oct. 1.
