100 Backstroke Highlights Day Two of Terrier Invitational

BOSTON - Freshman Tony Ponomarev tied for first in the 100-yard backstroke and two other Terriers joined him in the final to highlight day two of the Terrier Invitational for the Boston University men's swimming & diving team on Saturday at FitRec Competition Pool.
Ponomarev and fellow rookie Greyson Davies of Boston College both touched the wall in 49.59 in the 100 backstroke as Ponomarev shaved .24 off his prelim time to post a personal best and earn 22.5 points towards the team score. BU remains in third in the five-team meet with 681 points.
Junior Adrien Pierce (50.93) and senior Jacob Lindner (51.27) joined Ponomarev in the 100 backstroke final and finished seventh and ninth, respectively.
Junior Jackson Olin had a pair of top-10 finishes, tying for sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (49.99) before adding a 10th-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.25). Classmate Justin Lee also reached the 100 butterfly final and finished in ninth (50.09).
In the 100-yard breaststroke, senior Kyle Falkstrom recorded an eighth-place effort, finishing in 56.62, while sophomore Nathan Herman took 10th in the 400-yard IM (4:04.30).
The 200-yard medley relay of Ponomarev, Falkstrom, Lee and senior Ethan Thomas placed fourth in a time of 1:31.49 and in an exciting 800-yard freestyle relay to end the night, the group of Ponomarev, senior Sarsen Whatmore, Olin and sophomore Piergiulio Bressan took third to earn 40 points with a time of 6:44.36.
The third and final day of the meet will take place on Sunday (Nov. 20) with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 5 p.m.
