Junior Catherine Foulem made it a 1-1 game at the midway point of the first, but it was not enough to fend off the Friars, who scored the game's final three goals.
BU moves to 3-7-0 overall and 2-6-0 in Hockey East play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Friars produced the first goal of the game just 1:28 in the first period after a battle at the net that created space for a tip-in at the crease.
- After Providence put pressure on the BU end of the ice, Andi Calderone blocked their advance to create a chance for Foulem, who worked off a pass from graduate student Jesse DeVito and sent the puck into the net from the near side of the right circle.
- At 13:15 in the first, the Friars got the eventual game-winner with a shot from the high slot.
- Both BU and Providence went on the power play in the final four minutes in the first.
- The Friars' power play carried into the second period but was stifled by BU's penalty kill.
- The second period featured multiple solid chances for the Terriers, who outshot the Friars 13-11 in the frame, but the home team created a two-goal lead on a tally by Lauren DeBlois at the 16:11 mark.
- Providence was whistled for a cross-checking penalty soon after but BU could not convert on the power play.
- Graduate student Andrea Brändli fended off two shorthanded breakaway chances during that player advantage.
- At 10:37 in the third, Providence's original shot was blocked by Brändli but was deflected into the air and landed behind the BU goaltender where PC's Hunter Barnett knocked it in to close out the scoring.
- Soon after the Friars' goal, BU was on the penalty kill and held its opponents scoreless in the penalty.
- At 18:02 in the third, BU went on the power play after the Friars were called for slashing but nothing came of the final power-play chance.
GAME NOTES
- The Terriers were 0-for-3 on the power play while the Friars were 0-for-2.
- PC netminder Sandra Abstreiter recorded 29 saves in the win.
- Foulem's goal was her second on the weekend after she opened the scoring for BU in Friday's contest against the Friars.
- Providence outshot BU, 40-30.
UP NEXT
- BU will head to Vermont for a weekend series on Nov. 11 and 12.
- Both games against the Catamounts are set for 2 p.m.
