Women's Track & Field Excels on Opening Day of David Hemery Valentine Invite

BOSTON - The Boston University women's track & field team hosted the opening day of the David Hemery Valentine Invite on Friday and had some impressive performances against athletes from across the country.
Graduate student Bridget Bishop took first place in the shot put with a toss of 14.23 meters (46' 8.25") while freshman Kiana Lino was third at 13.56 meters (44' 6") and sophomore Emma Kowalski was ninth at 12.66 meters (41' 6.5").
Freshman Emma Lawrence had a third-place finish in the triple jump (11.88m / 38' 11.75") and sophomore Lisa Weyhenmeyer was sixth (11.64m / 38' 2.25"),
Senior Andrea Claeson became just the third woman in program history to run a sub-4:40 mile, placing 21st amongst 215 runners in a time of 4:39.22. Classmate Meghan Convery ran a 4:47.62, good for 39th, and graduate student Madeline Bachmann also ran a personal record with a 4:49.18, which placed her 45th.
In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Daisy Liljegren was one of three Terriers who set personal records, coming in 22nd in a time of 16:35.00. Graduate students Veronica Kriss (16:40.54, 29th) and Corinne Batsu (16:43.63) also had their best-ever efforts in the event.
Sophomore Isabela Shepard was the Terriers' top finisher among 186 entrants in the 800-meter run, placing 33rd with a time of 2:12.43.
A highlight of the meet took place in the 5,000-meter run, as Gabriela Debues-Stafford (14.31.38) and Elise Cranny (14.33.17) set the Canadian and American indoor records, respectively.
