Makoyawo Qualifies for NCAA Championships in 200-Meter Dash
March 1, 2022 | Men's Track & Field
BOSTON - Freshman Toby Makoyawo of the Boston University men's track & field team has officially qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 200-meter dash, as announced on Tuesday evening by the NCAA.
The Patriot League champion in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes, Makoyawo's time of 20.73 in the 200 ranks him 14th in the nation heading into the NCAAs, which will take place on March 11-12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Makoyawo becomes the first BU sprinter to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Cameron Williams in 2017. Williams holds both the indoor (20.57) and outdoor (20.56) school records in the 200 while Makoyawo set a new school mark in the 60 earlier this season at 6.64 seconds.
A native of South Ruislip, England, Makoyawo is the first BU freshman to earn an invitation to the NCAA Indoor Championships since Rich Peters in 2011.
ESPN3 will stream the championships live starting at 11 a.m. ET on Friday, March 11, and starting at 11:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 12. A re-air of the championship will take place starting at 9:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 13, on ESPNU.
