Weekend Recap: Terriers Compete on West Coast and at UMass & UConn

April 16, 2022

The Boston University track & field teams spent the weekend competing across four meets, including the Mt. Sac Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational in California along with regional meets at UConn and UMass.

Three women had successful efforts at the Mt. Sac Relays, as graduate student Madeline Bachmann made her debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and turned in the fourth-fastest time in program history at 10:32.99 while classmate Corinne Batsu ran the best 10,000-meter outdoor time by a Terrier in 10 years, as her mark of 34:08.44 placed her fifth in the BU record book. Senior Andrea Claeson clocked in at 16:03.53 in the 5,000-meter event to place her fifth on BU's top-10 list.

At the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azuza Pacific, junior Foster Malleck ran the third-fastest 1,500-meter run in program history with a 3:42.4. Senior Marcel Aubrey was close behind with a 3:49.

Sophomore Emma Kowalski bumped up her personal bests in both the hammer throw (54.05m) and the discus throw (46.84m) at the UMass meet. Both marks rank second in school history.

On the men's side, freshman Cole Tucker turned the outdoor shot put by a Terrier since 1986 as his toss of 17.26 meters places his fifth on BU's all-time top-10 list. Classmate Gabe Hickman upped his outdoor personal record to 16.75 meters.

One of the best 4x400 relays in BU women's history took place at UMass as junior Delia Barbanti, senior Emma Montoya and sophomores Kathleen Overbaugh and Jules Hogan turned in a 3:53.29, good for eigth in the program record book.

Senior Lauren Sikoski moved into a tie for ninth on BU's top-10 pole vault list with a mark of 3.25 meters.
