Men's Soccer to Open Home Schedule with Saint Joseph's Friday Evening

BOSTON – Looking to carry momentum from last weekend's 1-0 win at No. 9 New Hampshire, the Boston University men's soccer team will open its nine-game home schedule against Saint Joseph's Friday evening at Nickerson Field with action slated to begin at 6 p.m.
The Terriers are off to their best start to a season through two games since 2014 after opening the 2022 campaign with a 1-1 come-from-behind draw at Albany. The Hawks have played one game so far, dropping a 1-0 decision at Patriot League member Navy last Thursday.

- BU earned three weekly Patriot League awards on Monday for the first time since 2018 with graduate student defender Evan Morrison, senior goalkeeper Francesco Montali and senior midfielder Ryan Lee (midfielder) all getting recognized. Morrison was also named to the TopDrawer Soccer National Team of the Week for his efforts.
- The Terriers handed UNH its first home regular season loss since 2016 while earning their first road non-conference win since 2015. They also defeated their first top-10 opponent since beating No. 4/1 St. John's in 2009.
- Senior Quinn Matulis scored the equalizer at Albany with assistance from junior Andrew Rent, and Lee earned his first career game winner against the Wildcats.
- Montali posted a 0.875 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average through the first two games.
- The Terriers are riding a three-game home win streak after outscoring Holy Cross, Northeastern and Colgate last season by a combind score of 8-2 to finish the home schedule with a 4-3-0 record.
- BU has lost its last five home openers with the last win coming against UMass in 2016.
- BU is trying to stay unbeaten through the first three games since the Terriers opened 3-0-1 in 2010.
- The Hawks posted a 10-7 advantage in shots and 7-5 lead in corner kicks at Navy, but the Midshipmen scored 27 seconds into the second half and earned three saves for the win.
- SJU was picked to finish eighth out of 14 in the Atlanitc-10 preseason poll after finishing third in the conference last year at 5-2-1 with an 8-9-2 overall record.
- The Hawks return their top five point tabulators from last season, including Garrett Lyons and Omry Perel at 12 points apiece.
- Lyons, James Fletcher, Blake Driehuis and ALex Hartmann all had four goals apiece, while Perel owned a team-high six assists.
- Luis Lodosan started against Navy after starting six contests last season. He earned a 0.750 save percentage and 1.56 goals against average.
- BU and Saint Joseph's are meeting for the first time in program history.
- The Terriers are facing their first opponent from Philadelphia since beating Drexel in 2001 on the road when both teams were in the America East.
- The Terriers will conclude their homestand by hosting Merrimack on Monday (Sept. 5) at 1 p.m.
- The two teams battled to a 0-0 draw last season on the road.
