
Liljegren Leads BU to 16th Place at Paul Short Invite

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Boston University women's cross country team ran to a 16th-place finish at the Lehigh Paul Short Invite on Friday.
In the women's gold 6K, BU placed 16th out of 46 teams with 496 points. The Terriers finished 36 points ahead of Patriot League foe Army West Point and just 18 points back of 15th-place Dartmouth.
All runners in the main 6K event notched a personal best time. Sophomore Daisy Liljegren led the Terriers with a time of 19:49.7, good for 11th place. Next in for BU were grad students Veronica Kriss (20:35.4) in 70th and Meghan Convery (20:51.4) in 97th. The final runners to score for the Terriers were freshmen Vera Sjöberg (20:58.3) and Samantha Seabury (21:38.4). Also running the 6K were four freshmen: Addison Schmidt (21:39.3), Madeleine Finton (22:24.8), Olivia Dodds (22:33.2) and Candace Tytler (22:47.3).
In the open 6K race, BU recorded six additional personal best times. Freshman Alex Vellekoop led the pack with a time of 22:48.4 to place 47th and set a personal best. Freshman Kate Edenson (22:57.2 - PB) finished next for the Terriers, followed by senior Anna Kavanagh (23:07.0 - PB) and sophomore Sarah Hanifin (23:14.9). The final three to cross the finish line for BU were junior Marcela Perches (23:38.7 - PB), freshman Lily Borin (23:44.4 - PB) and junior Brynn Siles (23:46.1 - PB).
The Terriers will be back in action with a pair of meets on Oct. 15. BU will race at the Virginia XC Invite and the Suffolk Invitational.
